After spending most of the year working on Simon’s new book I was antsy to say the least. The thought of sitting down in the office for another month to work on marketing the new book was unbearable. We decided that while the book was getting printed we’d do a quick trip to the RED. The Red River Gorge in Kentucky that is.
Visiting the Red was food for my climbing soul that seemed to have been starved all winter. Simon, Coco and I all enjoyed being a family on holiday; we climbed on new routes, we played kids monopoly (every night), section by section we built the biggest pack of lego available, we visited the beer trailer (daily) to cuddle the cute kittens and last but not least we went to Disneyland for a day and spend a day at the park where we ate corn dogs and healthy treats from the Brisbane vending machines.
As far as climbing trips go it was quick, only three weeks and by the end of it I felt that I was climbing well again; onsighting near my limit and I had regained some of my fitness. It was great to be climbing again but it wasn’t all play. During that time we released our Kickstarter campaign for the new book and were working till midnight every night. So it didn’t feel like a ‘real’ holiday we just relocated ourselves elsewhere for three weeks and climbed some new things.
